Ostrya – Hophornbeam

Ostrya (Hophornbeam) is a genus of deciduous trees prized for their attractive form and durable wood. They make lovely shade trees in more expansive landscapes; some smaller ornamental specimens also fit well in tighter spaces. Hophornbeams produce distinctive hop-like fruits that add interest throughout the seasons, while their foliage provides beautiful yellow to orange fall color. Native to the Midwest, they also support wildlife and pollinators!
