Born and raised in Grundy County, both Jamie & Becky Thomas work hand in hand to cultivate specimen trees and valued partners. Stemming from the roots of hard work and honesty, they add education and experience to their vision for Spring Grove Nursery.
With a B.A. in Landscape Architecture from the University of Illinois at Champaign-Urbana, Becky Thomas understands exactly what her customers want and expect from their grower. Drawing upon her industry experience and design background, Becky strives to make Spring Grove Nursery the best fit for her customers. Becky is Past President of both the Illinois Green Industry Association and the Ornamental Growers Association of Northern Illinois.
From another angle, Jamie Thomas brings his education in Recreation, Parks, & Tourism Administration from Western Illinois University at Macomb. With experience in Park District Maintenance Administration, Jamie understands the need for the quality and diversity found at Spring Grove Nursery. Jamie is also a Certified Arborist with the International Society of Arboriculture. Together, they grow their nursery with a common vision for excellence and sustainability.
Their success can also be attributed to their strong family support and superb staff. A family heritage in farming brings values and work ethic together to help Spring Grove Nursery reach its full potential. With deep roots in the local community, Jamie & Becky look for opportunities to share their knowledge and trees when needed. They are committed to a yearly Arbor Day Program with the local school and dedicated to supporting local fundraisers with tree donations. Check out the Community page to find out more.
Their two children, Maggie & Joey, have both grown up working in the nursery. Maggie has participated in several nursery lobbying trips to DC along with Becky. She is currently working on her Masters of Theology at Duke University. She married Zach Harper this past December and they live in Durham, NC. Zach also chipped in at the nursery as one of our best spruce pruners, and he works now in plant genetics & biotechnology at BASF. Joey is freshman at University of Illinois pursuing a degree in Systems Engineering. He is well known locally for his own tree business “Canopy Joe’ started 4 years ago as his FFA project. He has sold over 400 trees and donated an equal amount to National Parks through Arbor Day Foundation. The apple doesn’t fall far from the tree in this nursery family!
When they are not pruning, Jamie & Becky enjoy camping and hiking with their family and traveling to National Parks!
“Every oak tree started out as a couple of nuts who decided to stand their ground.”
