Carpinus – Hornbeam
Carpinus, commonly known as Hornbeam, is a genus of deciduous trees and shrubs characterized by their smooth elegant bark and dense wood. As small to medium trees, they are excellent for hedging or as ornamental features, fitting well in both small and large landscapes. Hornbeams provide good fall color, with their serrated leaves turning golden to orange, and they produce interesting hop-like fruit clusters. While one species is native, they are valued for their multi-season appeal and support for wildlife.
