ORIGINAL POST 3-24-21: The DIG is on at SGN Trees! Last week we were able to start digging, and we are quickly moving through our ornamental blocks. In the spring, we listen to the trees and dig according to bud break timing. Ornamental trees tend to bud out early, so those are always first on the list. Some of the trees we are currently digging are Amelanchier, Carpinus, Cornus, Cercis, Malus, Crataegus, Prunus, Pyrus, and Syringa. Next we will move into early budding shade trees like Lindens, Maples, & Elms. Some trees tend to be at the later end of our dig cycle like Oaks, Birch, Honeylocust, Hackberry, & Spruce. Within a matter of weeks, thousands of trees will be harvested, staged, loaded, shipped, and planted into their final destination. Spring is such an exciting time in the nursery! We can’t wait to see where our customers plant our SGN Trees!
