Our April Tree of the Month has made its way into

Our April Tree of the Month has made its way into our Sales Yard! Flowering Crabapples are just about to POP with bright spring blooms! We have a gorgeous assortment of pink and white flowering varieties in both dense multi-stem forms or single trunk specimens. Plant some spring blooms this season!

April is when the nursery truly comes alive!

After months of winter planning and preparation, the fields are buzzing with activity. Our SGN crews are working hard around the farm and we have all settled into the rhythm of spring.

There are many moving parts at the nursery in April. Some days we’re tagging trees with customers, others we’re digging, loading, and shipping out trees, and other days we’re planting our liner crops. Often we’re doing all of these things (and more) before lunch!

April Tree of the Month: Malus

Crabapples (Malus) are a staple in the landscape for a reason. They are beautiful, reliable, and an excellent pollinator and habitat for birds, insects, and animals. They fit comfortably into a wide range of spaces, like streetscapes, parkways, residential yards, and municipal plantings. Their size, blooms, and seasonal interest make crabapples an excellent choice for smaller spaces and front yards.

From a grower’s perspective, we appreciate their adaptability and the diversity within the genus. From a designer’s perspective, they offer endless opportunities to layer color, texture, and habitat into a planting.

And if you’ve been following along with our Tournament of Trees, you already know crabapples aren’t just workhorses… they’re loved by you too. Royal Raindrops Crabapple recently made it to the Elite Eight in our Tournament of Trees!
