The long days of summer make for perfect tree-growing weather! Summer rain showers, ample sunlight, humid days, rich soil… we can almost watch the trees growing. We have been busy in the field this summer tending to our SGN Trees with lots of pruning & staking work happening in our blocks. The growth we are seeing this season in the field is tremendous! Even with the dry start to the season, our trees have not missed a beat. We have been quick to stay ahead of some trees like Hackberry, Elm, Locust which might require us to move through those blocks multiple times in a season due to prolific growth. We will be starting a new field inventory in the coming weeks, and we anticipate finding lots of big trees ready for Fall 2021 & Spring 2022 harvest!

Farm maintenance is also a priority around here in the summer. Our crews have been vigilant at spraying for pests in the nursery (bugs & weeds) which keeps our blocks clean allowing for optimal healthy growth. Our cover crops are filling in nicely, and we are already prepping for new grass filter strips to be planted soon. The sweet corn we planted in front of the SGN office is ready for picking.
