Well there is not much else to say but this… the field is wet! We have had regular rains every few days for most of the summer. It has been nice to not worry about a hot & dry summer – it’s been more like a hot & wet summer. The trees seem to like it & are putting on some nice new growth as a result.
The wet ground has made it hard to keep up on some of the field work but we seem to be staying ahead of most of the weeds & mowing. We choose not to cultivate in our nursery as part of our commitment to take care of our soil. In wet years like this it is nice to have the grass strips to be able to get around easily. We are waiting for a dry stretch though so that we can cultivate our newly planted areas & prep them for our fall seeding early Sept.
Otherwise in the field we are always pruning & staking. Our new field counts are rolling in and soon we will be tagging & preparing for our fall dig season.
Fall is a great time to visit the nursery. We welcome you to come out anytime for a tour!
