April Tree of the Month: Malus Malus Royal Raind

April Tree of the Month: Malus

Malus Royal Raindrops aka ‘JFS-KW5’ is a classic: bold, dynamic, and full of personality.

With foliage that emerges purple, this variety adds texture and color even before it blooms. In spring, hot pink flowers layer over that dark foliage, creating a striking contrast. As the season progresses, small red fruit follows, carrying interest into fall and winter.

Friday, April 24th is Arbor Day, one of our all-time favorite holidays here at Spring Grove Nursery! We can’t wait to see the trees we plant this year grow and thrive in our communities. Stay tuned for updates and pictures from the plantings this year.

It was a beautiful Friday to deliver some trees to a few of our favorite customers! We ended at Klehm Arboretum and Botanic Gardens - what a gem! Located in the heart of Rockford Illinois this 155 acre garden sits on an old nursery from the Klehm family. We saw some spectacular specimens while strolling through the grounds. The magnolias were in full bloom and the scent was intoxicating! The arboretum has been purchasing trees from our farm for several years. We always enjoy having their volunteer tree enthusiasts come down to tag. Today we ran into one of those dedicated guys, Steve. He recognized us right away and directed us to the garden where several of our trees were planted last year. They look great and we can’t wait to watch them grow! Today we delivered some Dakota Pinnacle birch and American Beech. We hope they are happy in their new home! If you are ever in the Rockford area, definitely check this beautiful garden out. Thanks to @klehm_arboretum_botanic_garden for trusting us with your trees! #treevolution #sgntrees🌳
