Acer rubrum ‘Frank Jr’– Redpointe Red Maple, another J.Frank Schmidt Nursery introduction, combines the faster growth of Acer x freemanii with an outstanding red fall color. The foliage stays a nice dark green all season without yellowing like other red maples can do in the wrong site. The growth speed is moderate to fast and it is very tolerant of a wide range of conditions. This Red Maple has quickly become one of our favorites giving it a “Tried & True” status in our book!
GROWER’S NOTE:
Redpointe is our favorite Red Maple variety. It grows fast in our fields, but it doesn’t get too “leggy”. The foliage stays dark green all summer and doesn’t seem to yellow like other Acer rubrum varieties. We rarely have any bark splitting issues and generally bring 100% of what we plant to market quickly. The red fall color is outstanding.
