Ulmus japonica x wilsoniana ‘Morton’ – Accolade Elm, developed by the Morton Arboretum, is a Chicagoland Grows tree. It has a vase shape, similar to an American Elm, with good resistance to Dutch Elm disease and Elm leaf beetle. With glossy green leaves and yellow fall color, the Accolade Elm works well as a street, parkway, or shade tree. This Elm variety earns our “Tried & True” status.
GROWER’S NOTES:
Growing Accolade Elm requires patience. At a young age in the nursery, Elms take a lot of work to get a good leader and structure off to the right start. We prune Elms multiple times a year and vigilantly stake them. Each tree has its own personality, so we have to treat every one uniquely. By the time they leave our nursery, they are well on their way to becoming a grand specimen in the landscape!
