Born and raised in Grundy County, both Jamie & Becky Thomas work hand in hand to cultivate specimen trees and valued partners. Stemming from the roots of hard work and honesty, they add education and experience to their vision for Spring Grove Nursery.
With a B.A. in Landscape Architecture from the University of Illinois at Champaign-Urbana, Becky Thomas understands exactly what her customers want and expect from their grower. Drawing upon her industry experience and design background, Becky strives to make Spring Grove Nursery the best fit for her customers. Becky is Past President of both the Illinois Green Industry Association and the Ornamental Growers Association of Northern Illinois.
From another angle, Jamie Thomas brings his education in Recreation, Parks, & Tourism Administration from Western Illinois University at Macomb. With experience in Park District Maintenance Administration, Jamie understands the need for the quality and diversity found at Spring Grove Nursery. Jamie is also a Certified Arborist with the International Society of Arboriculture. Together, they grow their nursery with a common vision for excellence and sustainability.
The nursery’s success can also be attributed to their strong family support and superb SGN Team Members. Through continuing education, dedication, and hard work, our SGN Team grows a superior selection of trees we all can be proud of. During peak seasons, our extended family also chips in to help get the work done. With a pioneering spirit and curiosity of new ideas, we all strive to excel at our endeavors and be the best at what we do. Besides growing trees, we seek to cultivate a family farm business rooted in stewardship and community.
Recently their two children, Maggie & Joey, both joined the SGN Trees Team. Maggie Thomas Harper is our our SGN Trees Team liaison. Maggie and her husband, Zach, both live and work just down the road from the farm in Mazon. In a previous life, Zach chipped in at the nursery as one of our best spruce pruners, and he now works now in plant genetics & biotechnology for GDM Seeds. Joey joined our SGN Tree Team this season as a Field Production Grower. The apple doesn’t fall far from the tree in this nursery family! When they are not pruning, Jamie & Becky enjoy gardening, cooking, and hiking with their family and traveling to National Parks!
