If you ask anyone outside the green industry, they might think January is a quiet, still, and slow time. But here at Spring Grove Nursery, this month is anything but! While the ground rests under frost and snow, our team is laying the groundwork for a successful year ahead.
January is our prime planning season. Inside the office, we’re finalizing liner orders, confirming spring planting schedules, and adjusting our production plans based on sales trends and inventory projections. Every year brings new challenges and opportunities, and this winter is no different as we refine what and where we’ll plant this spring so that our crop thrives for years to come.
We’re also deep into H2A labor planning and prep, making sure that government applications are filed, housing is maintained, and all logistics are squared away well before our crew arrives in March. There’s a lot of moving parts behind the scenes to make this program work smoothly, and we want to provide the best environment for our crew!
Winter is also the perfect time to give our tools, equipment, and office some TLC. From shop maintenance to reorganizing the office and updating inventory lists, we’re hoping to streamline some things to make the upcoming spring run even more smoothly.
One of the best things about January is reconnecting with our friends and learning from green industry experts. This month we’ll be out at winter trade shows and educational events, catching up with old friends, meeting new ones, and bringing fresh ideas back to SGN. These gatherings help us stay inspired as we head into another busy season. We look forward to catching up at InVigorateU at the end of the month!
We love this time of year! There’s a special rhythm to the winter months that helps us plan, prepare, and position ourselves for a busy and fun spring season. The fields and trees may be resting, but the green industry never stops growing!

Any plans to have an open house this year when we can visit and tour the nursery and the growing fields
