Dig Season has Begun! We have two full crews going a mile a minute to harvest our Spring crop out of the field. Our SGN local, H2A, and iTrees.com crews are the absolute best and have this process down to a science, working hard to bring you the highest quality field-grown specimen trees.
Before digging begins our crews spend time prepping in the shop for the work out in the field. They pre-string the burlap bags that cover the root ball so that they’re ready to go, and do any necessary equipment maintenance before hitting the ground running once the weather is right.
Up first to dig this season this year is our Serviceberry crop. Then, the crews will move on to other ornamental trees like Crabapples, Lilacs, and Lindens. Dig season is a time where we have to pay attention to what is happening in the field and be willing and able to quickly pivot depending on the weather and what’s budding next. The chaos is what makes it fun!
In about a month from now, our harvest will be complete and our SGN Trees will start shipping out to plantings across local communities. We can’t wait to see our trees growing in their new homes!
Below is a great video put together last spring by our friend Robert at Airwave Media Productions of Jamie explaining the dig process – check it out!
