Tree of the Month: Autumn Brilliance® Serviceberry 🌳

June has arrived, and with it comes the rhythm of summer on the farm: pruning, staking, and plenty of fieldwork. But one of our favorite seasonal signs? The sweet arrival of Serviceberry fruit!

Autumn Brilliance® Serviceberry is a standout in our fields. We grow both single trunk and multi-stem forms, and while it starts out slow, this tree finishes strong! The single trunk takes a bit longer to caliper up, but it’s worth the wait. 💪

With four-season appeal, it offers blooms in spring, berries in summer (a treat for birds and field crews), fiery foliage in fall, and a graceful form in winter.

Before May wraps up, we couldn’t resist giving one more shoutout to our Tree of the Month...the fabulous Crabapple!

Beyond their good looks, Crabapples offer important ecological value. Their spring blossoms are a magnet for early-season pollinators, including bees and beneficial insects just waking up from winter. In the fall and winter, the persistent fruit provides a much-needed food source for birds like Cedar Waxwings, Finches, Bluebirds, Cardinals, and Robins, helping support local wildlife throughout the year. 🌳🐝🍎

Here are some of our favorites:

Red Jewel – Bright white spring blooms and glossy red fruit that clings through winter make this variety a standout for four-season interest. 🍒

Firebird – Perfect for smaller spaces, this dwarf Crabapple has a rounded shape, fragrant white flowers, and vibrant red fruit well into the colder months. 🐦‍🔥

Royal Raindrops – A customer favorite for good reason: its magenta-pink flowers, purple cutleaf foliage, and persistent fruit combine ornamental value with durability. 🌸

Ruby Dayze – A compact variety with deep red buds and rich pink flowers, paired with reddish foliage and strong resistance to foliar diseases. 🌺

Our above-ground sales yard is stocked with our beautiful specimen 2-4” trunk caliper trees, but did you know that we also carry a diverse selection of high quality potted & root-bag trees, too? 🌳🪴

We source our SGN Canopy Collection from our liner suppliers, working with the best starter nurseries in the tree-biz to offer a smaller, DIY-friendly option for planting projects. Container trees can be easily handled and planted by 1-2 people; the only equipment needed is a shovel and some elbow grease! 🪏💪

Whether you’re looking to round out a municipal planting with some younger trees, wanting to start a backyard orchard or agroforestry project, or looking for a unique Father’s Day gift, we have an excellent array of potted shade, ornamental, and fruit trees looking for their new homes! 🌳🪴
