Leaf by Leaf: Book Club Recap 🌳📚 We had such a wonderful time at our very first #LeafByLeaf gathering!

A group of 11 readers (9 in person, 2 virtually) joined us to explore The Hidden Life of Trees by Peter Wohlleben...a fascinating look into how trees feel, communicate, and thrive in the forest. 🌲

With yummy food and drinks to keep us fueled, and some thoughtful, fun questions from Maggie to guide the conversation, we dug deep into the secret world of trees together.

Thank you to everyone who came and made it special! We can’t wait for the next one this fall, when we’ll be reading Serviceberry. Stay tuned for details. New readers are always welcome! 💚

We had a lovely day with Nina @beautyandthefeastgarden and Rick @landscapeillinois adventuring around our farm, garden, and nursery! From chatting about our favorite herbs and veggies, to exploring the treasures of the woods, lunch under the Sugar Maple, seeing our majestic bald eagle’s nest, and catching up on what’s going on in the field - we had a delightful time! Perfect weather and great company, we couldn’t ask for a better visit! 🌳🍃🧑‍🌾🌞🫛🌽🦅🌾💚

July Tree of the Month: Catalpa speciosa 🌳 Big, bold, and beautifully #MidwestNative the Catalpa is a fast-growing shade tree with bright green, heart-shaped leaves that turn a gorgeous yellow in fall. In late spring/early summer it puts on a show with clusters of 4–8” white flowers, followed by unique, pencil-like seed pods.

Another Tried & True favorite here at the nursery!

Grower’s Note:

Catalpas keep us on our toes. They arrive as young whips with no branching, but they put on caliper quickly — demanding early and precise pruning. By their second season, they’re often ready to go! We love growing Northern Catalpa not only for its beauty and speed, but because it challenges us — and we’re here for it. 💪🌿
