As September settles in, we wanted to honor the American Dream Oak as our Tree of the Month!
Quercus bicolor ‘JFS-KW12’ – American Dream Oak is a newer Swamp White Oak cultivar developed by J. Frank Schmidt Nursery. It was selected for strong resistance to anthracnose and powdery mildew. As a grower, we love the branching consistency in the field. This is one of our “Tried & True” favorites! American Dream Oak grows much more uniform for us in the nursery and finishes a little slower than the straight species. The foliage stays very clean, and the bark really stands out compared to other Oaks.
We recently planted an American Dream Oak at the Mazon Sesquicentennial Celebration to honor the history and future of our town. It was incredible to see so many folks come together to plant hope for the future! The American Dream Oak is also an excellent Legacy Tree selection. Last year, we planted an American Dream Oak for Bob Walker, a longtime family friend who passed away. Together, with Bob’s wife and daughter, our family and crew planted this Oak tree at Mazon Brookside Cemetery to honor Bob and his life of service to his family, community, and country.
The American Dream Oak is an excellent Oak cultivar, embodying the beauty and stature of oaks while bringing its own unique look with glossy, dark leaves and standout bark. Like the name says, this Oak is a true dream to grow.
