This year we are using new technology to make sure you get the healthiest trees! This photo on the bottom was shot by Becky’s Dad from his gyrocopter with a Near Infrared camera. The top photo was with a regular lens. Near infrared (NIR) light is not visible to the human eye, but it a great indicator of plant health. Healthy plant tissue reflects NIR light and unhealthy tissue absorbs NIR. This occurs way before we can see changes in the plant with the human eye with visible light.
This is a picture of our holding yard, where all the trees are now on water and look very healthy. If one of the trees were damaged by handling, or not getting enough water it would show grey because the NIR light would be absorbed and not reflected.
As the trees in the field leaf out fully we can monitor our crop for stress before it is visible to the human eye. Many new technologies have brought you improved tree species for your landscapes. With this latest new techology, we can now make sure they are in perfect health when you receive them.
Thanks Dad for the awesome fly over!
