Although Jamie does make a great “Tree Model” in most of our nursery pictures, I am referring to the “long & lean” tree varieties in these pictures. For projects that require a narrow specimen, consider these two great choices.
The Crimson Spire Oak is a J. Frank Schmidt Nursery introduction. It melds the best characteristics of its White & English Oak heritage to produce a fast growing, hardy, columnar tree that’s a great fit for streetscapes & landscape settings. With a mature size of around 45′ tall x 15′ wide it makes a great accent plant or livnig hedge. This tree had grown very well for us in the nursery and has proven to be one of our quicker growing oak varieties. You can read more about it on the tree’s very own website here. We have some beautiful 2″ & 2.5″ specimens ready to dig next spring.
Another attractive upright tree specimen is the Pyramidal European Hornbeam, Carpinus betulus ‘Fastigiata’. This tree will end up wider that the Crimson Spire Oak reaching a mature size of about 35′ tall x 25′ wide. The tree is very drought resistant with few disease & pest problems. In the nursery, it has grown moderately fast for us and we are looking forward to harvesting some nice 2″ & 2.5″ specimens this spring.
