We harvested our first crop of grapes last weekend from our vineyard on our family farm. Becky’s brother planted a 2 acre vineyard 3 seasons ago, and we got the first sizeable crop this year. We harvested enough white wine grapes to get a batch started in the Wine Pod (a very cool machine that makes wine). The variety is Lacrosse, which should make a nice light white wine – we’ll see how it turns out! In the two days from when we decided the grapes were ready to pick & we actually picked them, all of the red wine grapes were eaten by birds. So unfortunately no red wine this year! Pictured below are the Concord grapes we picked & made into juice & jelly. It was a fun day with everyone in the family pitching in to pick & crush the grapes. We are looking forward to our own Spring Grove Nursery label soon!
