For six generations, our family has cultivated and crafted strong roots in agriculture. With this understanding of the land and respect for the natural process, our nursery has grown to encompass this passion. Rising above the cornfields of Grundy County in North Central Illinois, our trees grow on 100 acres of some of the Midwest’s finest fertile soil. Our philosophy of growing stems from our guiding principles of stewardship, hard work, honesty, simplicity, and diversity.
Our commitment to stewardship started long ago when our family became one of the first in the country to practice no-till farming in row crop agriculture. This care for the land provides our roots with a soil structure that is naturally porous and rich in organic matter. By understanding what happens beneath the soil, we can afford our trees the proper environment to develop a strong and healthy root structure. We respect the relationship between our trees and the soil in which they grow, and we also respect the soil for what it will provide for many generations to come. Our focus on stewardship however goes beyond the soil. We strive for stewardship by responsibly caring for the land we manage, the community we live in, and the employees we work with. We seek to grow opportunities for future generations on our family farm.
Building from below the ground up, we pay close attention to our growing process. The relationship we have with our trees begins at the nursery where our liners take root. We only choose the finest quality liners to ensure we can provide the finest quality trees. After planting, we do more than grow our trees – we craft them. Growing trees is as much art as it is science. When we prune and tend to our trees, we constantly balance that relationship between the two to produce the perfect tree – healthy and beautiful. By always keeping our eyes to the acre, we allow the simplicity of patience, efficiency, and productivity to help us focus on the growing the best tree for our customer.
“To exist as a nation, to prosper as a state, and to live as people, we must have trees.” ~ Theodore Roosevelt
Our passion for growing is equally as important to us as our relationships. We want our customers and employees to know and understand our trees and how they were grown. Honesty and integrity are forefront in our minds. We desire to be known for our trustworthiness and accountability, and we will treat all customer, employees, and business partners with respect and fairness. We want our customers to feel good about their decision to let us be a partner in their vision. By growing trees, we are given the opportunity to partner with great people in this industry. Growing doesn’t end when our tree is harvested. On some levels it is the beginning of a new relationship – one that will continue to grow and flourish for many years to come.
With a pioneering spirit and curiosity of new ideas, our hard work and perseverance grows in all aspects of our nursery. We believe in diversity – of new ideas and trees. We invite you to join us at our farm and partner with us as your grower. We welcome the opportunity to grow healthy trees, deep roots, and strong communities!
