SUMMARY:100+ Women Who Care of Grundy County Fall Gathering
DESCRIPTION:We are so excited to host the 100+ Women Who Care of Grundy County again this fall! The local organization is a giving circle of women who support our community by contributing to local charities as a group. No committees\, no event planning\, and no volunteering. Women in Grundy County can join as an individual or team for $100 per gathering and each $100 gets one charity nomination. Three nominations are chosen at random to give a 2 minute talk on their charity. After all three pitches\, each $100 gets one vote for which charity should receive the collected funds! DESCRIPTION:We are excited to host the Illinois Arborist Association for their October 2026 Urban and Community Forestry Forum gathering! The Urban and Community Forestry Forums are a peer group of seasoned and new arborists\, educators\, and professionals in the industry. They hold monthly meetings across the state and cover a wide variety of topics that affect the tree care and urban forestry industry. \nAt Spring Grove Nursery\, we are looking forward to hosting the group in the field for an up-close journey through trees\, where we will demonstrate how SGN Trees are grown and share insights into the latest tree selections growing on. We will also dive into timely tree-related topics – yet to be determined! SUMMARY:Leaf by Leaf Book Club: The Unsettling of America by Wendell Berry
DESCRIPTION:The works of Wendell Berry speak to the core of what we embrace here on our farm – local community\, sustainability\, and simplicity. Originally published in 1977\, The Unsettling of America examines the modern agriculture system in the United States and it’s effects on local rural communities.  The book has been widely recognized as a seminal text in agrarian thought and environmental ethics. Berry believes that good farming is a deeply human and spiritual practice. It requires intimate knowledge of the land you care for. The 50th-anniversary release in 2027 highlights just how relevant these warnings remain in the modern world today. \nJoin us as we dive into this fascinating topic. If you haven’t read Wendell Berry yet\, then you are in for a treat! He is a very poetic\, wise\, and thoughtful writer that challenges readers to think about their place in community and relationship with the land. Berry was born in 1934 in Kentucky where he still lives today on his farm. He is an influential American novelist\, poet\, essayist\, and farmer who throughout his career has published more than 50 books and countless essays and poems. \nIn Chapter One of The Unsettling of America\, Berry writes\, “The cost of this corporate totalitarianism in energy\, land\, and social disruption will be enormous. It will lead to the exhaustion of farmland and farm culture. Husbandry will become an extractive industry; because maintenance will entirely give way to production\, the fertility of the soil will become a limited\, unrenewable resource like coal or oil. This may not happen. It need not happen. But it is necessary to recognize that it can happen.” He wrote those words in 1977. \nAnother favorite – just in the first chapter – “But the care of the earth is our most ancient and most worthy and\, after all\, our most pleasing responsibility. To cherish what remains of it\, and to foster its renewal\, is our only legitimate hope.” \nJamie has long been an avid reader of Wendell Berry. I come into the presence of still water.\nAnd I feel above me the day-blind stars\nwaiting with their light. For a time\nI rest in the grace of the world\, and am free.

SUMMARY:Fall Color Yoga in the Trees
DESCRIPTION:Our summer solstice yoga was so much fun\, we decided it needs to happen every season! We are thrilled to partner with Illinois Valley Industries and Maureen Keegan to bring you a fall yoga experience in the trees among the beauty of fall colors.  Illinois Valley Industries provides support and guidance to adults with intellectual\, developmental\, emotional\, sensory\, and physical barriers. IVI helps people participate in their community\, live independently\, contribute to society and enhance the quality of their lives. All proceeds collected from the event support IVI Wellness Programming. \nThe yoga will be led by a local favorite\, Maureen Keegan. She is one of the BEST yoga instructors around and we are thrilled to welcome her to the farm to share her practice with everyone.  Light refreshments will be available for after yoga. You are welcome to bring your own goodies and hangout afterwards for a bonfire. Come move\, unwind\, and support a great cause! \nOnline signups coming soon – check back in a few weeks! \n

SUMMARY:Friendsgiving Yoga
DESCRIPTION:Join us for a moment of gratitude for the abundance of love and friendships in our lives. Bring a friend or come and meet a new one at our first ever Friendsgiving Yoga Event! Local yoga instructor\, Abby Jackman\, is back for another yoga flow in the trees – this time centering the practice around Gratitude and Friendship. Following yoga\, we will all share in a communal potluck dinner. \nPlease bring your yoga mat and a dish to pass afterwards for the Friendship Feast! The yoga will take place outside in the trees if the weather is nice\, or inside the heated shed if it’s too chilly. \nSign-ups will be available soon. Check back in a few weeks!
